The main objective of our hygienists is to advise and assist you to achieve and maintain optimal oral health. They have extensive knowledge of oral health care including treatment and prevention of gingivitis and (periodontitis) gum disease, the leading cause of adult tooth loss. They perform many procedures to keep your teeth and gums healthy and to keep your breath fresh.

Through a procedure called root planing and scaling, our hygienists remove the build-up of soft and hard deposits such as calculus (tartar) from your teeth and below your gum-line, they can advise you on how to practice good oral hygiene, and provide other preventive dental care treatments for you and your children.

Our hygienists perform thorough examinations on your teeth and gums for the presence of diseases or other abnormalities such as lesions, which could indicate mouth cancer. They take radiographs; apply cavity-preventive agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants in addition to working in conjunction with our dentists during many treatment procedures.

Our hygienists can advise you on the relationship between diet and oral health and explain to you the importance of a well-balanced diet and the impact a diet high in sugar and starch will have on your oral and general health. They can also inform you on what to look for when selecting a new toothbrush that is most suitable for you and your children and how to brush and floss effectively.
